Minnesota Democrats helped win the U.S. House majority in 2018 by flipping critical seats in MN-02 and MN-03. Over the last two election cycles, five of Minnesota's eight congressional districts changed hands between parties—a testament to the state's competitiveness. This November, winning in Minnesota can help House Democrats retain their majority.

What's at stake

Teacher pay. Seven states, including Minnesota, pay their teachers less than the average salary in the state. On top of low pay, Minnesota teachers, like teachers around the country, are struggling to teach during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Teachers’ unions in the state are fighting for better pay and advocating for better working conditions.

Health care. More than 270,000 Minnesotans are uninsured. Following the passage of the Affordable Care Act, Minnesota’s uninsurance rate dropped significantly, but over the past few years it has begun to rise again. In early 2022, the Minnesota state legislature formed the Minnesota Health Plan Caucus to advance legislation to reduce health care costs and expand coverage for Minnesotans.

Energy conservation. Gov. Tim Walz wants to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions from electricity in Minnesota by 2040. In 2021, the Minnesota state legislature passed the Energy Conservation and Optimization Act, which expanded the criteria for energy savings, increased statewide goals for energy savings and efficiency, and further incentivized electrification of utilities.
