Though a solidly blue state where Democrats hold a state trifecta, Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District is competitive this year due to redistricting. While Republicans haven’t elected a representative from New England to Congress since 2018, this seat is one of the most endangered districts Democrats currently hold. Holding RI-02 in is key to ensuring a continued Democratic majority in the U.S. House.

Winning Rhode Island

Our primary objective in Rhode Island is to win the state's competitive congressional election in RI-02.

What's at stake

Infrastructure. According to a 2020 report, Rhode Island is home to the highest percentage of structurally deficient bridges in the nation, and received low ratings in roads and drinking water infrastructure. President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will invest nearly $1.7 in Rhode Island’s roads and bridges.

Opioid crisis. Rhode Island has been one of the states hit hardest by the opioid crisis. In 2018, the state was ranked 10th in the nation in mortality rate due to opioid overdose. Democrats in Congress continue to introduce legislation to save lives and hold pharmaceutical companies accountable.

Climate change. According to a report from the Environmental Protection Agency, since 1990, Rhode Island has warmed about three degrees, double the rise seen in other states. Additionally, from 1956 to 2016, sea levels in Rhode Island have risen by 5 inches, threatening homes, beaches and critical ecosystems. Without meaningful action, climate change particularly threatens Rhode Island’s fishing and farming industries, which will cost millions to address.
