We need to make gains in this chamber.
North Carolina Democrats flipped nine seats and broke a Republican supermajority in 2018, but suffered a setback in 2020, losing four seats. While the new state house map provides limited opportunity to reach a majority, Democrats will be able to protect vulnerable incumbents and take advantage of new pick-up opportunities to make progress in 2022.

We need to make gains in this chamber.
North Carolina Democrats broke a Republican supermajority and flipped seven seats over the last two election cycles. While Democrats are now five seats away from a majority in the chamber, the state senate’s new district map presents limited opportunities for Democrats to flip the chamber in the short term. Democrats will need to protect vulnerable incumbents and make marginal gains where possible in 2022.
