Wisconsin has a divided government, with Democratic Governor Tony Evers using his veto power to prevent the enactment of GOP-sponsored bills that would restrict abortion access and voting rights in the state. Reelecting Governor Evers will be essential to preventing a hard-right turn in the state's politics. Wisconsin will also have one of the most competitive U.S. Senate races in the country and serve as a key state in Democrats' efforts to protect their majority in the U.S. House.

What's at stake

Infrastructure. In Wisconsin, more than 1,949 miles of highways and 979 bridges are in poor condition. The state should receive at least $5.2 billion for highway repair and $225 million for repairing and replacing bridges over the next five years, thanks to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Federal funding will also help Wisconsin expand access to public transportation, broadband, clean drinking water, and more.

Fair elections. Wisconsin Republicans continue to “audit” the 2020 election results, with zero evidence of widespread election fraud, despite claims to the contrary. With the state legislature under GOP control, Republicans in the state are able to order politically-fueled audits of elections that didn’t go their way.

Reproductive rights. One of eight states with a pre-Roe abortion ban, Wisconsin would immediately criminalize abortion should Roe v. Wade be overturned. While Gov. Evers has vetoed numerous Republican-authored bills aimed at limiting abortion access in Wisconsin, the state’s previous ban would go into effect automatically without Roe.
