Why These Districts?
The closest Swing Districts to Chicago are IL-06 and IL-12, which are Republican-held, and IL-10, where Swing Left is working to protect the seat of the Democratic incumbent.
In Illinois’ sixth, Republican incumbent Peter Roskam won reelection by 64,964 votes (18.4%). But Hillary Clinton beat Donald Trump by 7 points in this district, making this a competitive race. In 2016, Republican Mike Bost won IL-12 by only 45,730 votes (14.6%). He’s sided with Trump on every major issue, from the Muslim ban to healthcare. Meanwhile, Democrat Brad Schneider (IL-10) pulled off a narrow victory against Republican incumbent Bob Dold in the 2016 election, beating him 52.6 to 47.4. In office, he’s proven to be a critical buffer against Republican rule.
