Protect the WI Supreme Court
On April 7th, voters in Wisconsin will elect a new state supreme court justice. A win for progressive candidate Chris Taylor would expand the liberal majority on the court to 5-2 and prevent conservatives from flipping the court through 2030.
In a razor-tight swing state, that majority can block gerrymanders, protect ballot access, and reject attempts to manipulate election outcomes—serving as a critical check on Trump and Republicans’ agenda, and shaping who wins power both in Wisconsin and nationally.

Last year, Swing Left volunteers showed up to elect Justice Susan Crawford and defeat her Elon Musk-backed opponent. Now we have another chance to protect the progress Wisconsinites have fought for, and make sure the rules of our democracy remain fair ahead of the 2028 elections.
At Swing Left, our priority is ensuring your time and dollars go where they’ll have the biggest impact. Right now, Judge Chris Taylor’s campaign is in a strong financial position, meaning additional dollars are less urgent. What will make the difference now is direct voter contact, which is why we’re recommending volunteering as the highest-impact way to help win this race today.
You can take strategic action now by volunteering to help Judge Chris Taylor win this seat.
Why This Race Matters
Maintaining or winning control of key state courts like Wisconsin is necessary to the larger, existential fight to preserve our democratic institutions. We need to secure both federal and state power, including in the courts, to put a real check on Trump and the Republicans’ agenda.
- ➩ In the past, court rulings have played a role in major issues like ballot drop boxes and voting access, and they will again. More cases are coming, including challenges to Wisconsin’s congressional maps, which currently give Republicans six of the state’s eight House seats in a closely divided state.
- ➩ Decisions on redistricting, election administration, or contested election results could ultimately influence which party wins control of the House and the White House in 2028.
- ➩ This race could prevent conservatives from flipping the court through 2030. It would lock in the court’s pro-democracy majority, protecting the bench ahead of the next presidential election and freeing up resources for organizing and voter outreach in a critical swing state.
- ➩ Winning this election is doable. We’ve achieved some major wins in Wisconsin in recent years, including flipping conservative control of the Supreme Court in 2023, ending the GOP’s supermajority in the state senate in 2024, and holding progressive control of the court in 2025. Working together, we can win here again this year.
Meet the Progressive Candidate
Judge Taylor has spent her career protecting the rights and freedoms of Wisconsinites. As an attorney, legislator, and judge, she has always believed the law is a powerful tool for protecting people. That’s why she has protected the constitutional rights of all Wisconsinites and stood up to extremists trying to rip those rights away. On the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, Judge Taylor authored a major 2023 decision that made voting by mail more accessible by preventing ballots from being discarded over minor technicalities in witness address information. As a former state legislator, she also used her legal training to improve public policies, including bringing Democrats and Republicans together to protect victims of domestic violence. She will defend a progressive majority on the state Supreme Court and be the fair, impartial, independent justice Wisconsin needs.
About the Opponent
Judge Lazar is a far-right candidate whose record aligns with efforts to restrict voting access and defend Republican political power in Wisconsin. If elected to the Wisconsin Supreme Court, she would be the most extreme member. She supports restricting access to abortion (calling the repeal of Roe v. Wade “very wise”), has ruled in favor of conservative activists seeking access to private health data as part of an effort tied to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election, and has defended Republican-drawn legislative maps that unfairly concentrated power for Republicans. She’s supported strict voter ID laws that research has shown to suppress voter participation, particularly in liberal areas and among Black and low-income Wisconsinites. Throughout her career, Lazar has protected special interests and big corporations, helping big banks and predatory lenders kick Wisconsin families out of their homes during the housing crisis, and ruling in favor of polluters seeking to make it easier for corporations to dump toxic chemicals into Wisconsin waterways.
