Swing Left Expands Ground Truth Voter Listening Program into Alaska in Support of Alaska Democratic Party and Rep. Mary Peltola

(JUNE 29, 2026) ANCHORAGE, AKSwing Left, one of the largest drivers of grassroots action helping Democrats win competitive races nationwide, today announced the expansion of its Ground Truth voter listening and persuasion program into Alaska. The Alaska Democratic Party’s Alaska First Coordinated Campaign will incorporate voter insights from the innovative program’s deep-listening approach into their outreach and organizing efforts for the state’s competitive Senate and House races. The effort launched June 26th with a volunteer canvass event in Anchorage with local volunteers.

"Alaska is one of the most unique and consequential political environments in the country, and exactly the kind of state where Ground Truth can make the difference,” said Yasmin Radjy, Executive Director of Swing Left. “One thing’s for sure: we can’t win in Alaska by mimicking tired tactics from the lower 48. Winning here depends on real organizing and real persuasion, and building trust with voters who have Rs and Is next to their names. We’ll be working to build that trust door-to-door in the cities, but also in fish camps and festivals. Alaskans know how to have those conversations. Ground Truth was built to make it easy to integrate that critical organizing work into campaign infrastructure. ”

“Mary Peltola has won statewide twice by focusing on listening to Alaskans everywhere, and earning the trust of communities across every background, political leaning, and region,” Radjy added. "Ground Truth is built to supercharge that work. Across Alaska, Ground Truth volunteers will capture insights from rich, textured voter conversations that tell us not just how someone is leaning, but why. That depth of listening, at scale, is how we help build the broad coalition it takes to win Alaska’s Senate and House races.”

“Alaskans are sick and tired of Nick Begich and Self-Serving Dan Sullivan putting their own self interests and special interest backers before Alaska,” said Alaska Democratic Party Chair Eric Croft. “With the help of Ground Truth, we’ll be talking to voters from Juneau to Utqiaġvik, running a robust organizing program that ensures that every Alaskan knows what’s at stake this November. Together we’re going to retire Begich and Sullivan, and elect leaders who put Alaska first every single day.”

A Listening-First Model Well-Suited to Alaska’s Challenges

Alaska presents some of the most distinctive organizing challenges in the country, and some of the greatest opportunities for a program like Ground Truth to make a real difference.

Ground Truth is an innovative, volunteer-powered program built on a simple premise: Democrats cannot win lasting power without first rebuilding trust with voters—and that requires a wholesale reimagining of how we do voter contact, starting with listening.

Unlike traditional door-to-door canvassing programs, Ground Truth is well-suited for exactly the kind of geographic terrain Alaska presents. Its technology is built to capture voter conversations wherever they happen, not just at people’s doors. This is especially important in a state where 82% of communities are off the road system, with vast distances between population centers and voter files that have long underrepresented rural and Indigenous communities.

Winning statewide in Alaska also requires Democrats to earn support from Independents (the largest voting bloc in the state), Republicans, and voters who have drifted away from the Democratic Party. While most organizing programs focus just on turning out likely supporters, Ground Truth volunteers engage all voters in longer, two-way conversations. After each conversation, volunteers record notes in a new app using voice-to-text functionality. AI analyzes those insights at scale and they flow to the Alaska Democratic Party and campaigns to shape strategy, outreach, and messaging.

Mary Peltola is a lifelong Alaskan and former fishing boat captain who will stand up to anyone to put Alaska first, and she’s won statewide twice by building broad coalitions that crossed party lines. Ground Truth will now help scale an organizing operation in Alaska that is again taking some big swings, both to help her win the Senate and to flip the state’s lone House seat. The Alaska Democratic Party's Coordinated Campaign has already mobilized more than 10,000 volunteers across 160+ communities statewide, with rural listening tours underway to engage Alaskans of all ages, regions, and parties in hard-to-reach communities.

“The Alaska Democratic Party is among the most forward-thinking state parties in the country when it comes to innovative organizing, and Ground Truth is designed to push those efforts further—reaching more voters, in more communities, with deeper impact,” said Radjy. “We’re excited to work with them to further adapt Ground Truth’s technology and methodology to the Alaska context. We see Alaska as one of the most ambitious deployments of the Ground Truth model anywhere in the country.”

The stakes could not be higher, with two winnable federal races in a Trump +13 state. Mary Peltola, the first Alaska Native ever elected to Congress, is challenging Republican incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan, who has consistently put special interests before Alaskans, traded stocks to triple his wealth in office, and voted to raise prices on everything from healthcare to housing during his tenure. Democrats are also running to reclaim Alaska's at-large House seat from Republican incumbent Rep. Nick Begich III, who has voted against the health care, economic security, and basic needs of his own constituents. Neither happens without strong organizing, technology, and data infrastructure to reach, listen to, and understand voters across every corner of the state.

This expansion represents Swing Left's deepest commitment to Alaska to date. Ground Truth volunteers nationwide have already been making phone calls to voters in Alaska, and the program is now expanding to include in-person volunteer organizing across the state. Since 2018, Swing Left has raised more than $800,000 for Democratic candidates and organizing efforts in the state to help Democrats win, including supporting Mary Peltola's campaigns in both 2022 and 2024.

Ground Truth canvassing, phone banking, and community outreach opportunities are now available to build sustained organizing momentum ahead of November. To get involved, visit www.ourgroundtruth.org.

About Swing Left

Since launching in 2017, Swing Left has mobilized grassroots volunteers to help Democrats win competitive races across the country. Its one million members have raised more than $140 million for Democratic candidates and organizations and reached more than 50 million voters through door knocks, phone calls, and letters.

Swing Left focuses exclusively on general election races in the most competitive races to help Democrats win governing majorities where they matter most. The organization does not take ideological or policy positions.

In 2026, Swing Left officially launched Ground Truth, a new model of grassroots organizing that reimagines how Democrats talk with voters to rebuild trust and win lasting power. Pairing deep listening at scale with AI-powered technology, Ground Truth talks to every voter — not just likely supporters — and produces rich, qualitative data that helps Democratic candidates win by anchoring their outreach and policies in the concerns of their constituents.
