2021 Virginia Elections

The Virginia gubernatorial and House of Delegates races in 2021 will be Democrats' first test of whether they can continue the electoral successes of the last three years into 2022 and beyond.

Early Spring 2021: We'll announce our target Virginia races and start raising early money and growing volunteer teams.

Summer 2021: After the Virginia primaries, we'll deliver funds to Democratic nominees, and plug volunteers directly into campaigns.

Summer–Fall 2021: Help mobilize voters leading up to the November 2nd election.

2022 Midterm Elections

When Democrats last won unified control of the federal government in 2008, it took just two years for them to lose it. We must stay engaged to preserve the progress that we've achieved since 2018. If not, we'll struggle to reverse the ruin of the last four years, let alone chart a better alternative.

Fall/Winter 2021: Pending any delays in 2020 census reporting—we'll have new district maps. Our political team will determine the most strategic target races to focus on, and we'll start raising early money and growing volunteer teams.

Spring/Summer 2022: We'll have Democratic nominees in our target races. Once those nominees are decided, we'll deliver funds and plug volunteers directly into campaigns.

Summer–Fall 2022: Help mobilize voters leading up to the November 8, 2022 election.

Frequently asked questions

We’ll be supporting Democrats in Virginia. Keeping Virginia blue is a priority, so we’ll be helping to elect the eventual Democratic nominee in the gubernatorial race, as well as the nominees in key House of Delegates races. You can support early organizing work on the ground in Virginia through Blueprint, our platform for year-round political giving.

We’ll be working to hold majorities in the House and Senate in the 2022 midterms. Voter turnout is historically lower in midterm elections, especially for the majority party in Congress. We must keep our Democratic majorities in 2022, and complacency is not an option. We’ll need to power up now, so we’re ready to protect Democratic majorities in Congress in 2022.

We’re powering up now for the elections ahead. We have a unique moment now to reflect on the past four years as we head into the midterms. It’s a great time to join a Swing Left group if you haven’t already, learn more about the redistricting process, and, critically, take a breather—we need to be healthy, rested, and ready for the work to come.

We’ll have redistricting results later this year. The Trump Administration's incompetence and the pandemic have delayed the 2020 census data reporting, resulting in delays to the redistricting process. By this fall, we'll have a better idea of what the new electoral map looks like.

It’s not too early to raise money. Our Defend Democracy Fund will support the eventual Democratic nominees in the most competitive races against the 139 Republicans who attempted to subvert our democracy and incited violence at the Capitol on January 6. Early money is key to successful campaigns, so we’re fundraising now to set these eventual nominees up to win.

Our community of more than 1 million grassroots members, including Swing Left Groups in more than 250 cities and towns across 40 states, came together to win back the White House, flip the Senate and make key gains in our continued fight for a better democracy. Read more about our 2020 impact.
