Protect reproductive freedom
Since the fall of Roe v. Wade in 2022, reproductive health care bans have eliminated some or all access to abortion in 20 states. The effects of this are stark: one in three women—plus trans and nonbinary people—has lost access to abortion in their home state.
Make no mistake: The GOP’s decades-long project to take away this basic freedom reached a crescendo with the 2022 Dobbs decision that gutted Roe v. Wade. But it hinged on Republicans' ability to win elections and stack the Supreme Court, Congress, and state legislatures with anti-abortion extremists. Our ability to get out of this mess will, too.
The good news? 8 in 10 Americans support reproductive freedom. And every single one of the seven times abortion has been on the ballot since Dobbs—including in majority-Republican states like Kentucky and Ohio—voters showed up to protect abortion rights.
That’s why we’re launching the Swing Left 2024 Abortion is on the Ballot Fund: your one-stop shop to directly fund the highest-impact campaigns and ballot initiatives to advance reproductive freedom in 2024 and beyond. Because while we can’t restore abortion rights overnight, our ability to achieve reproductive freedom long-term hinges on winning a federal trifecta and key state-level gains this November.
Abortion is on the Ballot Fund
Swing Left’s Abortion is on the Ballot Fund supports key ballot initiatives and candidates within our 2024 Super States–the 12 states most likely to tip the federal balance of power–so we can win the highest-impact elections to secure Democratic majorities and reproductive freedom.

Winning the Ballot Initiatives
Since the Dobbs decision, reproductive freedom advocates have successfully beaten back anti-abortion ballot measures and passed proactive, pro-choice measures. While hugely important for the future of reproductive freedom, these measures can also increase overall voter turnout and lead to important victories for Democratic candidates.
Arizona for Abortion Access
Republicans in Arizona passed a 15-week abortion ban to take effect in September 2024. However, Prop. 139 will appear on the ballot in November, allowing Arizona voters the opportunity to protect abortion access statewide. Arizona for Abortion Access is leading the charge to educate and turn out voters in support of this ballot initiative.
Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom
We can protect reproductive freedom in Nevada. This measure would enshrine the right to reproductive freedom and boost statewide turnout in a state where Democrats have to hold multiple competitive House seats and Sen. Jacky Rosen's seat.
New Yorkers for Equal Rights
We can enshrine reproductive freedom in New York too. By passing an Equal Rights Amendment in New York, we can protect access in the state constitution and boost turnout in the multiple competitive New York districts where a bump in voter turnout could help clinch a Democratic House majority.
Winning the Senate
To protect reproductive freedom at the national level, holding the Senate is the key objective. The Senate takes up judicial nominations at the federal level and has the power to be a crucial check on other Republican attacks on reproductive freedom.
Whoever wins the presidency is likely to appoint two Supreme Court Justices during their term. If Trump wins, he might be responsible for selecting five total members of the Supreme Court—a MAGA majority.
But here’s the thing: Reversing the MAGA takeover of the Supreme Court and federal courts nationwide isn’t just about the presidency; we need a Democratic Senate majority, too. After all, one of the main roles of the U.S. Senate is to confirm judicial nominees, impacting the makeup of our court system for a generation.
So if Trump wins, we’ll have a way to block him. And if Biden wins, he’ll likely be able to fill two crucial seats on the Supreme Court.
That’s why investing in Senate races is critical to protecting reproductive freedom. This fund includes Democrats in five must-win races to hold the Senate majority. These candidates are committed to protecting and advancing reproductive freedom—and they have the voting record to back it up.

Winning at the State Level
The GOP is using its advantage in state legislatures to advance extreme abortion bans. We can thwart these plans by electing Democratic governors and legislators who will protect reproductive freedom in the states.
Josh Stein
We must build power in North Carolina to protect reproductive freedom, and this year, we can do that by electing Josh Stein as governor. Republicans control both state legislative chambers, but Democrats can make gains in the 2024 elections and reestablish the power of the governor’s veto. The governor will serve as the critical last line of defense against statewide GOP anti-choice legislation.
Pennsylvania State Legislature
Republican legislators in Pennsylvania have made it clear they want to target reproductive freedom. In order to enshrine abortion access in Pennsylvania, Democrats must pass a resolution twice in the State House to add a ballot measure to protect abortion. We can build power by electing more Democrats in competitive seats, making this goal achievable.

Track Record of Success
At Swing Left, we have a proven track record that shows when you contribute your dollars and volunteer efforts through us, Democrats win.
Since its founding in early 2017, Swing Left has built a community of more than 1 million grassroots members, including affiliated groups in more than 250 cities and towns across 40 states. Swing Left volunteers and donors have raised more than $80 million for Democratic candidates, civic organizations, and voter mobilization efforts, and made more than 46 million combined phone calls, door knocks, and letters to voters via Vote Forward and its partners.
To fight the GOP’s push for more restrictive, regressive bans, several states have successfully passed statewide ballot initiatives to protect abortion care. In fact, since the reversal of Roe, in every state where abortion rights initiatives have appeared directly on the ballot, we’ve won. Funding candidates and ballot initiatives are crucial in the fight for reproductive rights. With your support, we will invest in data-driven voter turnout operations in our 2024 Super States and beat back the radical Republicans seeking to control reproductive rights.
